Joint construction of this Fort began in 1847 by civilians and the Army Corps of Engineers. The fort was only 2/3rds completed by the time the Civil War started. It was originally under confederate control however a short time later Robert E. Lee ordered everyone to evacuate due to Union forces.

Unfortunately by the end of the Civil War, even though the union now controlled it, it was left unfinished. The Spanish-American war revived it for a short time to use for munitions and quarters. Only one year later after the Spanish-American war ended, the fort again was abandoned to time.

It sat empty until 1926 when a private entity was interested. The Army Corps of Engineers sold the property. A few years later, in 1935, Fort Clinch became one of the Florida’s first state parks!

Come join Princess Lola and I while we explore the Fort Clinch State Park!

The park rangers were quite nice, but they wouldn’t stop eating to help!  😂

I was attempting to see how far I can zoom with this camera.  This is the perimiter of the Fort Clinch grounds.

Below are images of the buildings within Fort Clinch.  Princess Lola saw open doors, stairs & hallways and wanted to explore!  The park guides are very helpful and they try to keep in character in front of visitors.

The Fort Clinch grounds inside are well maintained.  I really enjoy visiting historic places.  It’s extremely peaceful.  This park is also not very busy, at least every time I’ve visited. 😊

I think by now my 1 or 2 blog viewers realize I also like to try new resturaunts when I travel,  😂  This is Cafe Karibo, a pit stop to fill up (I generally eat after a hike, not before).  Princess Lola and I walked down to the water as well, it was a beautiful day!

That’s all for this visit!

Happy camping!
See you on the trail!
